CUFF OF THORNS

I have very few keepsakes from childhood , boxed treasures of bits and pieces.

A very special late  Great Aunt, more like Grandma, as Great Grandma to my kids, sent me a silver charm bracelet when I was too young to appreciate or wear it , but held it dear in my ballerina jewelry box.
Later my mom added a few charms, and so did I , wearing it although it wasn't really the current fashion, proud of a special difference.
I discarded it back to a box when it lost value in discontentment and anger.

When my children first discovered it , I was surprised at how such a little piece of jewelry could carry such pain.

Now I embrace it, for what it is worth and will be.

CUFF OF THORNS

clasp round not binding
that freely  I may swing
bangle of shackling trinkets
 reflections caught to mirror
bedazzled with dangling badges
hooked eyes inherit ring
linked chain charms legacy
captive circlet now hold dearer

shroud not as suspended manacle
muting herald's tinkling lure
connect these  faithful emblems
argent conductors of child pure

from queen of heart I found you
laid  wanting in velvet sheen
'til strung bonds shone inheritance
happy love saw mom and falls
wrap me about as crown not thorns
suspend stamped gifts unforeseen
cuffed here as there jewel glimmers
joined eternal such love befalls

That middle stanza is startling. The meter and rhyme is very effective. And I really enjoyed the irony of rhyming lure with pure. Rich, rich sounds.

My favorite phrase...

"I found you
laid wanting in velvet sheen
'til strung bonds shone inheritance"

Yes.
